Getting Ready for Installation
Thank you for choosing Village Trimlight! This page explains what to expect before, during and after your installation. Please read it through, and keep it handy until your installation day.
Your Installation Date
We will text or email you with your installation date. If that day does not work, just reply with a different date, or a few that do.
We will do our best to fit your schedule. During our busy season it gets tight, and holding out for one particular day can push your installation back well past the next opening.
Need to reschedule? Please give us at least 48 hours' notice, or as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you in time, or no one is home when we arrive, there is a $150 charge.
Dates and Times Can Change
Your date can move unless you ask us to make it FIRM. Two things move dates: weather and delays.
Weather
Florida heat is hard on attic work. On a warm day, your attic gets much hotter than it is outside:
| Outdoor temperature | Well-ventilated attic | Poorly ventilated or standard attic |
|---|---|---|
| 75°F (mild spring or fall) | 85°F to 95°F | 105°F to 115°F |
| 90°F (warm summer day) | 100°F to 110°F | 120°F to 140°F |
| 100°F (peak summer heat) | 110°F to 120°F | 130°F to 160°F or more |
Lightning
If a storm moves in and we can see or hear lightning, we stop, pack up and come back the next day. Carrying 10-foot sections of metal channel up a ladder is no place to be in a lightning storm.
Rain
Our lead installer decides whether to keep working, based on how hard it is raining and what is left to do. Our crew's safety comes first.
Delays
Sometimes a job ahead of yours runs long, and the schedule slips by a few hours or a few days. We plan for the worst case, so when a crew finishes early, we move the next customers up.
If you can be ready on short notice, reply OPEN and we will let you know when an earlier spot opens up.
Things to Know
- Outlets in the soffits. If you have electrical outlets in your soffits, our channel may partly cover them. It depends on how the outlet was originally installed. If you need an outlet left open, please tell the installer on the day and they will work around it. Keeping an outlet fully open can mean a gap in the channel, which does not look as clean. If we have to come back afterward to change it, there is a return-trip fee.
- Decorations and furniture. Please move lawn and holiday decorations, furniture and anything else near the house before we arrive. If something cannot be moved, we will be careful around it, but we cannot be responsible for damage to items left in the way.
- Wiring. We run the wiring the most practical way, usually through the attic. Sometimes the only route is along the outside of the house, inside a wire cover that blends in with your home. It is neat, but it is not completely hidden, and it may run along gutters, siding, the roof, walls or downspouts. Anything beyond that, such as opening drywall, is billed separately for time and materials.
- Metal cuttings. Cutting the channel leaves small, sharp pieces of metal. We clean up before we leave, but a few can hide in grass and ground cover. Please watch your step around the house, and do not walk barefoot until you have checked.
- Pets. Please keep pets inside or secured while we work, and pick up after them in the yard beforehand. We go in and out of your home to reach the attic and garage, and we do not want to track anything inside.
- Ladders. Our ladders lean against your home throughout the installation. That can leave minor scuffs or scratches, and worn or weak exterior materials can give under the weight. We cannot be responsible for damage to materials in poor condition, or to things we cannot see, such as wiring inside walls, landscape lighting, flashing, security systems, photocells or timers, irrigation and audio-video wiring.
Before We Arrive
- Ensure we have attic access.
- Ensure we can enter the attic without any obstacles. A few things (3 to 5) in the way is acceptable.
- Clear any patio furniture and planters from under the roofline.
- Ensure sprinklers are off on the day of installation.
- Move vehicles out of the garage on the day of installation.
Attic access: if we have to empty the attic to get in and then put the items back, there will be an additional $150.00 charge.
Installation Day
We start with a walkthrough with you, showing where we will install the Trimlight channel and noting any existing damage to the outside of your home that you may have overlooked.
We will also show you the best location in your garage for the Trimlight power supply and control box.
Download the Trimlight Edge app
Please install the Trimlight Edge app on your phone or tablet before we arrive.
Write down your Wi-Fi information
We will need your home Wi-Fi name and password to connect your lights. The Trimlight controller connects to a 2.4 GHz network.
Tip: passwords are case-sensitive, so please write capital letters clearly.
After Installation
We will set up the app to connect to your home network, then give you a tutorial on operating your lights, effects and schedules.
